“Famed photographer Michael Childers — who is no stranger to local philanthropy — pays tribute to his late husband, British film director John Schlesinger, with a festival of the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s movies and his fearless cinematic exploration of humanity.
Known for such film classics as “Midnight Cowboy” (1969), “Darling” (1965), “Sunday Bloody Sunday” (1971), “The Day of the Locust” (1975), “Marathon Man” (1976) and others, Schlesinger began making movies as a young man in London. He was introduced to Childers in the late 1960s by actress-singer Kaye Ballard.
“My Husband Makes Movies” began Jan. 27 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center with “Marathon Man” and runs through March 17, comprising five of Schlesinger’s most visionary works, each with opening remarks and/or appearances from well-known film personalities, including TCM’s Dave Karger, writer-director Del Shores and actors Beverly D’Angelo and William Devane, as well as two live interviews with Childers…”
