“Beloved and respected local caterer Lynn Hammond did not have a silver spoon in her mouth when she was born in Palo Alto, California, in 1954. Nor did she have an Easy-Bake Oven growing up in Portola Valley, a suburb five miles away. What she did have were a homemaker mom and banking executive dad (later turned real estate entrepreneur) who built a comfortable life for their firstborn and her two siblings โ and who loved to share their good fortune through entertaining.
โWe had a tennis court and a pool,โ says Hammond, 70, as we sit in the living room of her Palm Springs home. โMy parents would invite friends over to play, and the kids would swim. Then all of a sudden, out came a chateaubriand, a casserole, and a salad. Really easy recipes my mom could make in 10 minutes. My parents had a very gracious lifestyle, and were very generous.โ
