Joshua Tree Stonewall Remembrance Days Underway Now

Joshua Tree Stonewall Remembrance Days (JTSRD) is four days of poetry, art, music and theatre in remembrance of the Stonewall riots. The events happen June 22 – 25 at Art Queen at 61855 Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree.


JTSRD events reflecting the gay experience include a presentation by director/writer/actor Guinevere Turner (Go Fish, The L Word), the opening of Fertile Desert, an exhibition of recent work by photographer Eric Schwabel, readings by Raquel Gutiérrez and Anna Joy Springer, a late night screening of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and a Sunday morning pancake breakfast. All the action launched Thursday and here's what remains as we publish:

Friday, June 23

  • 8:00 PM: My Journey Through Lesbian Representation, a clip reel and conversation with Quinevere Turner followed by Q&A;
  • 9:30 PM: Documentary: Marco Castro-Bojorquez's El Canto del Colibri, Latin American immigrant fathers and their LGBTQ children experience the process of family acceptance

Saturday, June 24

  • 3:00 PM: Dance and Stretch with Dapper Studios. Participate…bring a yoga mat!
  • 3:45 PM: Introductory Remarks: Why Remember Stonewall with T. Hammidi
  • 4:00 PM: A fun fashion show by Dusty Deserette, and Pink-ish Leather Fashions presentation by the legendary Robert Warner
  • 5:00 PM: Gallery reception for Eric Schwabel's “Fertile Desert” exhibition with thanks to Bruce Bibby/Ted Casablanca Gallery
  • 5:30 PM: Shari Elf performs “An Ode to Mr. Morgan”
  • 6:00 PM:  Poetry/Spoken Word by Raquel Gutierrez and Anna Joy Springer
  • 6:45 PM:  Dance Party/Live Bands: Teddy Quinn Band, Leslie Mariah and Small World Experience, Jeff Hafler & The Wonder People, Daytime Moon
  • 10:30 PM: Screening of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (attendees encouraged to dress up)

Sunday, June 25

  • 11:30 AM: A Pancake Breakfast with live music by the JT Jazz Band and performance art by Aaron Sheppard
