Dezart Performs Season Tickets on Sale
Gay Desert Guide is thrilled to continue its media partnership with Dezart Performs, which has announced its 2017/2018 season, and this weekend, holding auditions for The Legend of Georgia McBride – A New Comedy by Matthew Lopez – slated to open the season in early November. Michael Shaw directs. The Synopsis?
"He's young, he's broke, his landlord's knocking at the door, and he's just found out his wife is going to have a baby. To make matters even more desperate, Casey is fired from his gig as an Elvis impersonator in a run-down, small-town Florida bar. When the bar owner brings in a B-level drag show to replace his act, Casey finds that he has a whole lot to learn about show business and himself."
For its 10th Anniversary celebration, Dezart Performs has selected a provocative 2017/2018 season of theatrical productions which will entertain, engage and stimulate audiences.
In announcing the 2017/2018 line-up of productions, Artistic Director Michael Shaw commented, "It’s an incredibly exciting time for Dezart Performs as we announce our new season and look ahead in celebration of our 10th Anniversary. Coming off of an amazingly successful past season, we have challenged ourselves to continue providing bold, provocative, quality productions never-before seen in the Coachella Valley.” More Info
"Repeat 'Party'! The Desert Rose Playhouse Brings Back Last Summer's Hit Feel-Good Comedy for a Six-Week Run"
"When Desert Rose Playhouse opened David Dillon’s Party last year on June 24 for a six-week run, the circumstances surrounding Desert Rose—the valley’s only LGBT theater company—and the LGBT community as a whole were rather bleak.
Desert Rose’s future was up in the air, thanks to a substantial financial loss caused by the company’s critically lauded yet poorly attended production of Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches earlier in the year. Meanwhile, the LGBT community was reeling from the Pulse Nightclub massacre, which had taken place just 12 days before."
