The Sugarloaf Cafe has been a historic dive off of Route 74 since the early 1930’s. Originally “manned” by Mae Nightingale, the location housed and fed the workers who built this scenic highway – which connects the Palms to the Pines. A day trip up the mountains from Palm Desert means cooler weather and casual American dining “al fresco”. Take a hike behind this local watering hole up to Cactus Springs, and experience the magic of the Santa Rosa mountains: half desert, half dwarf forest!
