Summer is here and we are celebrating desert life at the Backstreet Art District.  Maxson Art is excited to share Greg Maxson's latest woodworking masterpiece, the "Zen Drum".  Greg’s Zen drums are inspired by combining his passion for music and his love of woodworking. The result is a form of hardwood drum also known as a tongue drum. The name is in reference to the vibrating “tongues” cut in the sound board. They are a modern incarnation of an ancient Aztec tribal and ceremonial drum.  Since every note in a given drum is in the same key as all the others, there are no "wrong" notes to play.

"Gaia" (Mother Earth) is also on display at Maxson Art for the next few months. Linda created "Gaia" as a tribute to Earth Day. Using natural materials to craft the body and hair of her newest work, the loving expression of Gaia's face belies the sadness hidden inside represented as a fragmented mirror. But look closer and Gaia contains a surprise to remind us of the circle of life and that we all play a part in conservation and renewal.

Live entertainment provided by a guest DJ.
