Art Museum Summer Film Series Wraps Up with “Zabriskie Point”

On Thursday, September 5 at 6:00 p.m. the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Annenberg Theater present the final film in the FREE Summer Film Series: “Zabriskie Point” (1970), a counterculture celebration of the unrestrained romance between an undergraduate dreamer and a hippie student, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. The film series, themed as “Summer of ’69” celebrates the 50 years since the end of the 60’s with films reflecting the climate of the time. Free Film Screening: The Public

Friends of the Palm Springs Public Library will present a screening of the film “The Public” on Sunday, September 8 from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at the Palm Springs Cultural Center. The story revolves around library patrons, many of whom are homeless, mentally ill and marginalized, as well as an exhausted and overwhelmed staff of librarians who often act as “de-facto social workers” and care for those regular patrons during a cold Cincinnati winter. A panel of community leaders will address local concerns and discuss possible remedies following the film screening: Geoff Kors, Palm Springs City Council member and Homelessness Task Force member; Arlene Rosenthal of Well in the Desert; Officer Christopher Smart of the Palm Springs Police Department; and a representative of FIND Food Bank. “Savannah Sipping Society” Opens

Desert Theatreworks presents “The Savannah Sipping Society,” a delightful, laugh-a-minute comedy running from September 6–22 at the Old Town Playhouse in Indio. Greater Palm Springs Pride has announced the recipients of its 2019 Pride Honors Awards. Lauren N. Nile, Ellen Wolf, Jennifer Jungwirth, Joys Oldam, Ron Oden, and Tommi Rose will be recognized for their efforts in raising awareness and furthering the causes of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and their allies.
