We just put the finishing touches on our October Fun & Games Dept. offerings from GayDesertGuide.LGBT (including our Virtual Speed Dating events). We have some new ways to meet and mingle this month including a 70s Happy Hour, Halloween “Zoom That Tune” and museum tours that will provide you with a little culture… Watch our calendar, our Facebook page and this blog as we roll them out.
The census wraps up Sept. 30th and these are the waning days for voter registration. Are you doing your civic duty on both fronts? October is LGBT History Month and while we’ve made made strides over the past decades, many are in danger of eroding with the Supreme Court opening and an administration bent on dividing our country. These are two simple ways to make your presence count.
We became a “red” county this week, meaning our restaurants can open indoors with 25% capacity. Now is a great time to support our restaurants with a visit – or a carry out order. Other restrictions were relaxed as well including movie theaters and salons. So no more parking lot pedies….
Cooler temps are starting to make our evenings and mornings just perfect for a walk. How about joining the Virtual Desert AIDS Walk this year or the Front Runners/Walkers Virtual 5k Run & Walk celebrating our abbreviated Pride. These and all the valley events you need to know about are always a click away on our website.

Census Deadline is…Imminent
The 2020 Census is fast approaching an uncertain deadline (first it was moved up to Sept. 30, then a federal court issued an injunction that would make it Oct. 31 but now an appeal is expected) so it is now more important than ever that every household just get their response in ASAP. It only takes 5 minutes, but if you don’t do it by the deadline, you won’t be counted. A high Census turnout can lead to millions of dollars in federal funding for local education, healthcare and hospitals, and important infrastructure that will help shape the future of our area for generations to come.
