Virtual Speed Dating for Men of All Ages

The next Speed Dating offering from the the Fun & Games Dept of Gay Desert Guide will be Gay Virtual Speed Dating for Men of All Ages, hosted by Shann Carr, on Saturday, September 12 at 6:00 p.m. Speed dating has never been more fun! We will make introductions, and you go on several short one-on-one dates (each lasting 5-6 minutes) then mingle with everyone with a fun game and have a real conversation about dating. Cinema Diverse LGBTQ Film Fest 2020

The Palm Springs Cultural Center presents Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival in its 13th year, running from Friday, September 11 through Wednesday, September 30. They have re-envisioned the festival to continue to bring you the latest in quality LGBTQ+ cinema in the healthiest way possible. This year you can experience the festival in two unique ways: virtually from the comfort of your recliner at home or at the new PS Cultural Center Drive-In Experience,  showing six films over six nights. Virtual Cinema Feature Films, Shorts, and Documentaries are available online through PSCC’s Virtual Cinema program and can be viewed at your leisure, with All-Access Passes, Six-Packs, and Single Film passes available.  Equality California: Golden State Equality Awards

Join Equality California on Sunday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m. for the Golden State Equality Awards, presented this year as a virtual celebration you can enjoy from your living room (streaming at www.eqca.org/gsea). Hosted by actress and advocate Angelica Ross (POSE), this incredible event will honor Mayor Pete and Chasten Buttigieg and the Netflix original documentary Disclosure — and will feature a special tribute to the late Rep. John Lewis by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The evening will also include exclusive musical performances by Melissa Etheridge, Betty Who, Robin S, Shea Diamond and Alex Newell. Virtual Desert AIDS Walk Announced for Oct. 23–24

For the past thirty-four years of walking, the Desert AIDS Walk has ensured that those living with HIV and AIDS continue to thrive. Registration is now open for the 2020 edition, which will be presented virtually. The reason for “The Walk” has never really been about balloon arches or walker t-shirts. It has always been about the collective power of community and our shared vision of a future. This year, you register as always, create or join a team if you like, and then you can walk the traditional route or any neighborhood or trail of your choice! More info


ANA Inspiration This Weekend

One of the first major events in the valley to be postponed back when the coronavirus pandemic hit, the ANA Inspiration golf tournament takes place September 10–13 at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, marking the first women’s U.S. major of the year. The event is going forward without spectators, following the State of California Public Health Department guidelines with all relevant safeguarding and protocols in place. Fans will be able to watch the ANA Inspiration on Golf Channel and Sky Sports and follow along for enhanced content on social @ANAinspiration and the tournament website. More info

 Club Skirts’ The Dinah 2021 Dates Announced

The Dinah Shore Weekend, the largest lesbian event in the world, has announced they are holding dates for two possibilities in 2021: either May 5–9 OR September 15–19, 2021. Passes purchased for the canceled 2020 festival will automatically transfer to 2021, whichever dates are ultimately chosen. White Party Postponed to April 2021

White Party Palm Springs, originally postponed to October 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, has been postponed again due to the statewide ban on large gatherings. Now set for April 23–26, 2021, tickets will automatically transfer to the rescheduled event. More info

Love In Action: Supporting the LGBTQ Community During COVID-19

On Saturday, September 12, from 7:00–9:00 p.m., the Los Angeles LGBT Center will host its first-ever telethon, Love in Action, live on television station KTLA 5 benefiting the Center’s vital programs and services.
