Desert AIDS Walk

2,000 walkers and 100 volunteers will come together from across the Coachella Valley in a powerful demonstration of kindness and compassion at Desert AIDS Walk 2019 on Saturday, October 19. Funds raised make it possible for 10,000 of our neighbors and friends to have continued access to Desert AIDS Project’s holistic, integrated health and wellness programs; their doors are open to everyone, regardless of gender or HIV status. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., Walkers step off at 9:00 a.m. Wellness fair from 10:30–1:00 p.m. More info

Palm Springs Equality Awards

Equality California’s Palm Springs Equality Awards are Saturday, October 19 from 5:30–10:00 p.m. at The Riviera, and Gay Desert Guide is a proud media sponsor of this important annual recognition and fundraiser. Celebrate EQCA’s 20th Anniversary at one of the desert’s most stylish venues and honor the inspirational leaders and organizations whose selfless work helps create a world that is healthy, just and fully equal for all LGBTQ people. This year Harold Matzner is being honored with the Humanitarian Award and Alexis Ortega is being honored with the Community Leadership Award. Jennifer Holliday will give a special performance. Margaret Cho at Outlandish Performance Series

Margaret Cho makes her Outlandish debut on Saturday, October 19 at 8:00 p.m. at the Palm Springs Cultural Center as part of the Outlandish Palm Springs performance series. Synonymous with stand-up comedy that is both gut-wrenching and hilarious, Margaret’s ground-breaking and controversial work has played to sold-out houses across the nation. Modernism Week Fall Preview

From Thursday, October 17 through Sunday, October 20, you can enjoy a variety of more than 50 new and favorite events at Modernism Week Preview, drawn from the annual Modernism Week festival held in February. There are architectural walking tours, festive cocktail parties, home tours, stimulating lectures, the famous Premier Double Decker Architectural Bus Tours, tours of Sunnylands, and more, including the Modernism Show & Sale, Fall Edition, a showcase for 40 premier national and international decorative and fine arts dealers at the Palm Springs convention center. Palm Springs City of Diversity Home Tour

The Organized Neighborhoods of Palm Springs (ONE-PS), present the self-guided City of Diversity Home Tour on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. You’ll visit 6 vibrant homes in 6 very different neighborhoods. The homes were selected to present a variety of interior styles and accents from whimsical to classic midcentury. Several of the homes will have vintage cars in the driveways and all homes will have snappily dressed docents available to give you the skinny on the home. Get tickets

Casual Concours Car Show

The finest midcentury car show in the Coachella Valley, Casual Concours, takes place Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. at the Desert Princess Country Club. The show reflects the unique collector car culture of Palm Springs, with dominant displays of rarely seen luxury cars of the 1950s–80s and a focus on styling, color, luxury features, historical significance and showroom condition—in other words, midcentury glamour! Dirty Little Secrets Burlesque – “Scared Shirtless”

On Saturday, October 19 from 8:30–10:00 p.m., Dirty Little Secrets Burlesque puts on a frightening Halloween tradition, Scared Shirtless. Lots of spooky shimmies and shakes are heading your way with these 25 amazing burlesque and boylesque performers. But don’t be scared, they don’t bite….hard. Weekend Theatre

Desert Theatreworks presents Mamma Mia! The smash hit musical based on the music of ABBA from Friday, October 18 through Sunday November 3 at the Indio Performing Arts Center. The show features all the beloved hit songs by ABBA, including “Dancing Queen,” “S.O.S.,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Take a Chance on Me” and of course, the title tune, all set to a feel-good story of young bride-to-be Sophie.
