This weekend in your Gay Desert Guide: June may be the busiest Pride month, but we are kicking off Pride NOW with Long Beach Pride this weekend, and our very own Pride Month Kick Off Mixer on Arenas this coming Monday, featuring a social media contest presented by your Gay Desert Guide! We are also talking about Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast, Kaye Ballard's biopic, Kate Campbell and the Martini Kings, and the final weekend for 2 Across. Kicking Off Pride Season 2018

Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride is this weekend, May 19 & 20, with a parade down Ocean Boulevard on Sunday and a festival all weekend featuring multiple music stages: the Main Stage which will host performances by the likes of Jussie Smollet and Sheila E, and then a stage for each of the following musical tastes: Country, Dance, Fiesta Caliente, and Urban Soul. Your $20 ticket gets you admission to the festival and supports the mission of encouraging and celebrating LGBT inclusion and pride. Get tickets

On Monday, May 21 at 5:00 p.m. Join Gay Desert Guide, the Desert Business Association and the Palm Springs Chamber for a Pride Month Kick Off Mixer on Arenas Road. Get your Passport stamped at participating businesses for a chance to win prizes.

In addition to the passport contest, Gay Desert Guide is running a Facebook Foto & Checkin giveaway: Take a photo at participating businesses and post it during the event to Facebook with the hashtag #ILoveGayPalmSprings.  We're giving away 2 tickets to the "Got U Babe" HRC benefit tribute concert in June at The Show!

Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast – May 18

The 2018 Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast – Coachella Valley will take place on Friday, May 18 at 9:30 a.m. at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The program will honor the memory of Harvey Milk, an American hero, and recognize this year's honorees: activists Cleve Jones and Mandy Carter. Also honored will be LaQuinta High School graduate and UC Santa Cruz student Raziq Noorali as the Harvey B. Milk Outstanding Student of the Year, and Allysia Park and Sybil Smit as the 2018 Gay-Straight Alliance Advisors. Harvey Milk Day is celebrated each year on May 22 as a California Day of Special Significance in memory of the gay rights activist and San Francisco City Supervisor assassinated in 1978. Weekend Entertainment

Veteran performer Kaye Ballard is the subject of an all-new biopic, The Show Goes On…, premiering on Saturday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Palm Springs Cultural Center's Camelot Theatre. Kaye Ballard performed with Big Bands, appeared on Broadway, and in television and film, and she will be in attendance for this once in a lifetime evening of laughter and memories. Get tickets

Kate Campbell performs with The Martini Kings on Saturday, May 19 at 6:00 p.m. at Michael Holme's Purple Room Supper Club. Kate is an international singer and recording artist; she was also recently seen in the feature film Gone Girl and nominated for a Maverick Movie Award for best supporting actress for her role in the feature film Badsville. The Martini Kings are beloved by all for their suave style and authentic West Coast Jazz sound with an exotic combination of retro classics, jazzy standards, and bossa novas. Get tickets

Queen of the Desert Competition Coming June 1

Ethylina Canne returns to host the 5th annual Queen of the Desert So-Cal lip sync competition benefiting Desert AIDS Project on Friday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. Six drag queens compete for the title of Queen of the Desert, decided by a panel of local celebrities, while attendees vote for their Fan Favorite by donating dollar bills. This high energy event is attended by 725 local residents and is sponsors by local bars that feature drag shows. The competition has moved to a new venue this year: The Palm Springs Cultural Center/Camelot Theatre. Get tickets early because this event always sells out.
