This Weekend in #ILoveGayPalmSprings
March 23-25, 2018
This weekend in your Gay Desert Guide, we've got fashion, food and fun in Palm Desert (if fun = wine, and it does). There are a number of stellar theatre productions to make you think, laugh, cry, and/or dance, and we want to remind you about some major events just over the horizon. We would also like to offer a special invitation to participate in the Community & Marketing Insights 2018 LGBTQ Survey. Your responses help businesses and organizations understand the unique needs and tastes of our community!
Fashion, Food and Wine in Palm Desert
The West Coast's largest consumer fashion show is held right here in the Coachella Valley, in the ever-fashionable El Paseo shopping district. Fashion Week El Paseo wraps up this weekend with events featuring designers Ralph Rucci and Carolina Herrera. Trunk shows, runway shows, and "Factory-style" parties are all part of the fashionable fun!
Also in Palm Desert this weekend: the three-day Palm Desert Food & Wine Festival, with a lineup of culinary personalities, celebrity chefs, tastings of extravagant food from over 40 acclaimed restaurants, and sublime wines from over 65 stellar vintners and wineries.
Weekend Theatre: Who is Sylvia, Anyway?
This is the final weekend of performances for Grease, presented by Desert Theatreworks at the Indio Performing Arts Center. We don't need to tell you what that's about or how much fun it is. We can say tickets are extremely limited at this point. More info
The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? is a thought-provoking Edward Albee play presented by CVRep, and our reviewer Stephen Radosh raves about it here. This play contains, he says, "one of the most shocking and disturbing final moments of a play ever written." Intrigued? Get tickets
Suddenly Last Summer is a classic horror story written by Tennessee Williams, yet not as often performed as many of his other plays, so we are lucky to have it presented by The Desert Rose Playhouse. Stephen Radosh reviews it here and praises the "commentary on the very inhumanity of mankind which is as on the money today as it was in 1958." Get tickets
Cocktail Hour, presented by Coyote StageWorks at the Annenberg Theatre in Palm Springs, was written by A.R. Gurney and features a cast of WASP-y family members who confront their mutual frustrations over martinis, with recriminations and revelations both funny and poignant. Get tickets
