June Pride Month in Greater Palm Springs
Summer heat will rear its ugly head this weekend with temps approaching the same number as our main highway – 111. We've had a great Spring and a wonderful season!
The Warhol exhibit at the Palm Springs Art Museum has packed up and left us with a better understanding of the enigmatic artist. We now know so much more about the Michael Childers connection to Andy as well. Michael acted as docent for a recent group at the museum, some of my friends were among the lucky group!
We're making plans for "Summer in the City" and I'm pleased to announce that the Mid-Summer Dance Party benefitting Desert AIDS Project will return. I've just secured DJ Ray Rhodes (Tiger Heat in LA) to spin 80s tunes on Saturday, July 28th at Chill Bar. Details soon!
Our new Gay Desert Guide Summer Map & Calendar is out. If you're new to the area or have friends visiting, you'll want to pick up a copy at one of over 100 locations in the valley. If your business would like copies to give to customers, please contact us! Each quarter, we highlight our Featured restaurants, shopping, Nightlife and more in an easy-to-navigate map of Palm Springs and Cathedral City.
Speaking of which, the bar scene there is about to really heat up! "Runway", the restaurant and bar attached to CCBC is about 60 days away from opening its doors. And finally, the lights at The Roost Lounge are about to be turned on! While we're in Cat City, Gay Desert Guide is having our signature TryOUT Tuesday on a Thursday. We will bring you the new Mama Mia film, "Here We Go Again" at the Mary Pickford Theatre on Thursday, July 19th.
Gay Desert Guide is proud to be a media sponsor at two major film festivals this summer: ShortFest and Outfest in Los Angeles. We'll bring you the highlights and keep you updated on the best LGBTQ films at each.
Gay Wine Weekend starts the next day (July 20) in Sonoma. Tickets are still available. Big Bear Romp will be an opportunity to escape the August heat for the alpine village. Details on our comprehensive Events calendar
And a final note on Tuesday's election. Please research the candidates and issues. Equality California has a comprehensive list. Locally, our Stonewall Democrats also provide guidance. I'll make one last plea to vote No on Measure C. The Desert Business Association board has endorsed No on C.
I love Palm Springs and in my opinion, this is a ban on vacation rentals that have been a part of the accommodations we have been offering our tourists for decades. Measure C is bad for business, bad for our economy and sends the wrong message to those who are looking to visit.
