I ❤️ the 80's Mid-Summer Dance Party!

This Saturday, July 28–Gay Desert Guide and Revel Pale Ale are presenting a Mid-Summer Dance Party – a benefit for Desert AIDS Project. Get your 80s on and come ready to party till the "Last Dance!" DJ Ray Rhodes of Los Angeles will be spinning to get the party started from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the front bar and DJ Dawna Montell takes it from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. in the back bar. The Mirror Me Photo Booth (back by popular demand after an appearance at Halloween on Arenas) will be set up in the front bar from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM to record your great evening, and there will be a special midnight performance by Calpernia Addams! Don't miss a great time with Drag Go-Go Dancers in the back room of Chill Bar. More info

Thank You For the Music: Mamma Mia 2 TryOUT Thursday a Success!

Thank YOU for coming to our TryOUT Thursday at D'Place Entertainment's Mary Pickford Theater last week (July 19) for our special cocktail reception and advance showing of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again (our crowd spilled over into two additional screenings!). It's Hot in the Desert…

…but that doesn't mean you can't find some cool fun like drinks, ice cream, or just the sweet relief of enjoying a meal in a cool restaurant:

The 3rd Annual Taste of Summer Rancho Mirage is an event whereby participating Rancho Mirage restaurants and resorts have created cool summer specials. Taste of Summer 2018 runs now through Sunday August 19. The purchase of a $10.00 Taste of Summer wristband allows patrons to take advantage of $4.00 cocktails, appetizers and/or desserts offered by participating restaurants and resorts. Many people are taking advantage of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway as a way to beat the heat by getting some elevation. (Although it was closed today due to the fires).  You can also achieve with a day drive to places like Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear–which happens to be a the site of a big gay gathering next month! Big Bear ROMP 2018 takes place from Thursday, Aug 16–Sunday, Aug 19 at The Lodge at Big Bear Lake. Lea DeLaria Coming to the McCallum

PARTNERSHIP JUST ANNOUNCED! Orange is the New Black star Lea DeLaria, popularly known as "Big Boo", the most butch inmate at Litchfield on Netflix’s original hit series, is bringing her comedic and vocal stylings to the McCallum Theatre on Thursday, November 8 at 8:00 p.m.

Gay Desert Guide will be the media sponsor, partnering with McCallum, and we will be giving away backstage passes for a VIP experience including 'meet n greet' with Lea. We will have more information soon on how you can win!

In the meantime, check out the exciting upcoming 2018-19 Season at the McCallum Theatre. Save The Date: Stars Among Us 2019

The Mizell Center's Valley-Wide Meals on Wheels Program has announced the date and featured entertainment for their 2019 "Stars Among Us" Gala. On Friday, February 22, 2019, Deborah Cox will be "Queen of the Night" and celebrate the music of Whitney Houston. Ms. Cox is a Grammy Nominee and star of The Bodyguard: The Musical, and will also perform her #1 Billboard hits including "Nobody’s Supposed to be Here”, “Absolutely Not," and “Same Script Different Cast,” a duet she recorded with Whitney Houston. Mark your calendars; tickets will be available in late November for this 14th annual edition of the Stars Among Us Gala.


Eisenhower Health: Importance of Preventive Health Screenings

On Thursday, July 26 from 1:00–2:00 p.m., Eisenhower Health presents The Importance of Preventive Health Screenings at the Mizell Senior Center. When we think of 'managing our health' we often think of eating a healthy diet and exercising. Although those things are important, visiting the doctor regularly for preventive screenings, such as blood pressure, colonoscopy, bone density and others are just as important to stay healthy. Join Don Gardinier, DNP, to learn which screenings are recommended and have your blood pressure taken. Reservations are required. All Community members are invited to participate. More info



Donny & Marie at The Show

America’s favorite brother and sister duo Donny and Marie are coming to The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa on Friday, July 27 at 8:30 p.m. Donny and Marie are bringing their new hit singles along with their chart-toppers like “Puppy Love,” “Paper Roses,” and “A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock N Roll.” Add in sibling humor, their supreme Las Vegas band and dancers along with high-energy style and dance numbers for one production that is total entertainment for everyone from the young to the young at heart. Women Behind Bars – Final Weekend

The Desert Rose Playhouse, the Coachella Valley’s LGBTQ+ Stage Company, presents Women Behind Bars, a comedy by Tom Eyen, running through Sunday, July 29. In this hilarious satire on B-movies of the 1950's, Mary Eleanor, an innocent duped into crime, lands in the Greenwich Village Woman's House of Detention. The prison is presided over by a massive matron with a taste for sadism and female flesh. Our heroine, now Caged in the Big House, learns about life The Hard Way. CVRep Presents The Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus

On Sunday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m., The Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre presents the Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus (PSGMC) in concert. Named by Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon as the Official Gay Men's Chorus of the City of Palm Springs in 2018, the PSGMC was also given the honor of April 8 being declared Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus Day. Jeff Pifher Quintet at Jazzville

Jazzville, a monthly live jazz scene in Palm Springs presented by DJ Baz at Oscar's Cafe downtown,  presents the Jeff Pifher Quintet on Wednesday, August 1 from 7:00–10:00 p.m., with Jeff Pifher on sax, Corey Coverstone on drums, Misha Bigos on keys, Colin Cook on guitar, and Eric England on bass.
