Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival Wraps Up

Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival is eleven days of not to be missed world-class films, panels, and parties, from July 18–28 at various locations around L.A. Each summer the festival screens more than 150 feature and short films to an audience more than 40,000 people, it’s the oldest film festival in Los Angeles and is considered the preeminent LGBTQ film festival in the world. The Normal Heart: A Special Reading

Join the Coyote Stageworks on Thursday, July 25 at 2:00 p.m. for a special FREE performance: a reading of Larry Kramer’s groundbreaking play, The Normal Heart. The reading takes place at the Palm Springs Cultural Center and features several artistic directors from our local theater community. This searing drama is about public and private indifference to the AIDS plague and one man’s lonely fight to awaken the world to the crisis. More info


Palm Springs Art Museum Summer Film Series

On Thursday, July 25 the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Annenberg Theater present the next film in the FREE Summer Film Series: “Shampoo” (1975), a blistering satire of presidential and sexual politics directed by Hal Ashby and starring Warren Beatty and Goldie Hawn. The film series, themed as “Summer of ’69” celebrates the 50 years since the end of the 60’s with films reflecting the climate of the time. Screenings continue every two weeks through July and August with “Medium Cool,” “The Rain People,” and “Zabriskie Point.” Specialty cocktails created specifically for each film will be available in Persimmon Bistro 4:00–6:00 p.m. More info



Summer Soiree Celebrating GED

Protect and Defend’s Party in the Desert

This weekend is Party in the Desert, a traditional gathering of LGBT police officers, fire, ems and military that has evolved in different types of names since 1978. Protect and Defend is a non profit 501c3 organization that had contributed over 9,000 to LGBT organizations nationally. This weekend members will be out at Wang’s on Friday, July 26 from 7:00–9:00 p.m. and Hunters after 9:00 p.m. On Saturday, July 27 from 9:00 p.m.–midnight is TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT at Hunters. Meet a member and get a sticker, send messages to your friends or a police officer, firefighter or military guy/gal and see the message on the big screen, plus giveaways and more! Freestyle Jam at The Show at Agua Caliente

On Friday, July 26, at 8:00 p.m. the biggest names in freestyle music including The King of Freestyle, Stevie B., and The Queen of Freestyle, Trinere, will perform their biggest rhythmic dance hits during the Freestyle Jam Concert at The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa Rancho Mirage. The tour also includes Freestyle legends Connie, Debbie Deb and R&B cross over artist Nu Shooz.
