Gay Desert Guide Collage Jan 8 2021

On TyrannyWe made it through this week.  I don’t know about you, but my world stopped January 6th when the insurrection broke out.  And I’m still having trouble getting back to “work” even as I write this Friday morning.

I never thought that my blog and newsletter would turn from the promotion of #ILoveGayPalmSprings to talking tyranny.  But here we are. On my personal Facebook page, I have been quoting “On Tyranny”, by Timothy Synder all year.  He was on The Rachel Maddow Show again last night and here’s one quote from the book. It’s worth reading it from cover to cover (and it’s concise for those of you with a short attention span).

Politics and the pandemic have divided us in ways that our adversaries must be watching with glee. How do we come back from this?  Even in the Coachella Valley we see the divisiveness happening at every turn – from outdoor dining to politics.  We are less than two weeks from a new dawn.  Let each of us work to heal – to understand to be understood – as we get back to a place of normalcy.

On the podcast this week, we salute one of our MVPs who is leaving us – Mike Thompson from the LGBTQ Community Center.  And we get uplifting words from Angie Harvey.  I hope you’ll watch/listen from start to finish.
