I always thought Modernism Week was a strange name for something so seemingly retrospective, but in 2018, movie theatres are shutting down and converting back into live theatres, so you never know when stuff is gonna reverse course on you. You will know, however, when and where some of the events may be this weekend that we here thought might interest you. It comes out in the wash.
17th Annual Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale

The 17th Annual Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale will feature 85 premier national and international dealers offering furniture, decorative and fine arts representing all design movements of the 20th century.
An opening night Preview Gala benefiting Modernism Week will be held from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday. Preview tickets are $75 in advance and include a show catalog. Weekend show hours are 10am to 6pm on Saturday, 10am to 5pm on Sunday and 10am to 4pm on Monday. Weekend admission is $20 and good for return entry and catalog.
New This Year! Palm Springs Modern Design Expo
The First Annual Palm Springs Modern Design Expo will be introduced over the first weekend of Modernism Week and run concurrently with the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale. The Palm Springs Modern Design Expo will feature 40 exhibitors presenting the newest and hippest elements for modern living including dynamic and energy-efficient building materials, innovative home appliances, smart home technology and security, hand-crafted furniture and design accessories, contemporary art and photography, and much more.
The Expo is created by the same team that has produced the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale for the past 17 years. Weekend show hours are 10am to 6pm on Saturday, 10am to 5pm on Sunday and 10am to 4pm on Monday. Weekend admission is $20 and includes admission to both the Modernism Show and the Modern Design Expo. Tickets can be purchased online below or at the door.

Her HRC Holds 2nd Annual Palm Springs Event

Human Rights Campaign Palm Springs holds the 2nd annual Her HRC event on Saturday, February 17th from 2-4pm. The mission of Her HRC events is to gather women to celebrate and build a greater sense of community, while learning about the importance of engaging in the LGBTQ civil rights movement. This amazing desert event will be held at a beautiful private residence in Old Las Palmas, featuring special performances by stand-up comic Julie Goldman and musical artist Sean Wiggins, catering by Lynn Hammond, and Libations from Pacific Wine & Spirits, Leslie Barclay. Last year, the Palm Springs chapter received the Her HRC of the Year Award for the event, so this year will certainly be one not to miss.
While this is a Her HRC event, all HRC events are open to all guests, regardless of gender identity or expression, so invite your LGBTQ and ally friends!
L-Fund Holds 4th Annual Gala and Fundraiser
When the Her HRC event is done, join L Fund for their 4th Annual Gala and Fundraiser at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa on Saturday the 17th from 5-9pm. This year Jewel Thais-Williams is the recipient of the L-Fund's Bobreta Franklin Community Service Award. She is one of the first to open a housing facility for women with AIDS and their children, open "Imani Unidos" food pantry, and own a disco for LGBT people, that provided a haven for thousands from homophobia in our broader society.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Elaine Gibbs and her 5-piece Women's Band. They will play musical stylings sure to inspire your dancing feet.
