Cathedral City Drag Race Kicks Off
Help the Cathedral City Gay Bars find the “Royal Highness of Cat City” during the Cathedral City Drag Race, running September 9 through October 7. Nine contestants will be scored by local celebrity judges on originality, themed outfit, personality, and performance. With weekly prizes and audience favorites, the contestant with the most points at the finish line wins the title! Hosted by Anita Treadmill with music by DJ Galaxy from KGAY 106.5. The first location will be Studio One 11 on Monday, September 9 from 6:00–9:00 p.m., and continuing every Monday at a different location “across the 111 catwalk.” More info
Square Dancing Fall Classes Begin Sept. 9
Boots in Squares, Coachella Valley’s premier LGBTQ square dance club, starts Fall Classes on Monday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the air conditioned Cathedral City Senior Center. Boots in Squares is one of the top three largest clubs in the IAGSDC (International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs) as well as one of the fastest growing. Greater Palm Springs Pride has announced the recipients of its 2019 Pride Honors Awards. Lauren N. Nile, Ellen Wolf, Jennifer Jungwirth, Joys Oldam, Ron Oden, and Tommi Rose will be recognized for their efforts in raising awareness and furthering the causes of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and their allies. Call for Artifacts: Gay Pride Exhibit
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, the Marks Art Center at College of the Desert would like to invite artists to submit works of art that speak to the LGBTQ experience of activism and pride over the last 50 years. Films on the Great Lawn: Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Sunnylands Center & Gardens, reopening for a new season Sept. 11, revives the 1950s genre with the return of its outdoor movie series, Films on the Great Lawn, screening “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” on Friday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. Presented in partnership with the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the screenings on three consecutive Fridays in September are free to the public, gates open at 7:00 p.m. Future screenings: “The War of the Worlds” on Sept. 20 and “The Thing From Another World” on Sept. 27.
