DBA Mixer at The Purple Room

The Desert Business Association visits DBA member Michael Holmes’ Purple Room Supper Club on Monday, October 7 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. for their Networking Mixer. This mixer will recognize the 6th Anniversary of the Purple Room Supper Club. You will learn more about their upcoming season AND get a taste of what they have to offer. Cat City Drag Race Final Night of Competition at Trunks

Help the Cathedral City Gay Bars find the “Royal Highness of Cat City” during the Cathedral City Drag Race, at the final night of competition at Trunks Bar on Monday, October 7, from 6:00–9:00 p.m. Contestants will be scored by local celebrity judges–including KGAY‘s own morning host John Taylor–based on originality, themed outfit, personality, and performance. With weekly prizes and audience favorites, the contestant with the most points at the finish line wins the title! Hosted by Anita Treadmill with music by DJ Galaxy from KGAY 106.5. More info

 

 


Calamity Jane Sing-Along with Among Friends

The Gay Men’s Guide to Sex

The LGBT Community Center of The Desert and Eisenhower Health jointly present The Gay Men’s Guide to Sex on Wednesday, October 9 from 5:30–6:30 p.m. Join Dr. Del Rosario for a broad overview of gay male sexual practices in the medical aspect.  An in-depth question and answer session will follow. Jazzville: Jason Hanna Quintet

Jazzville Palm Springs presents the Jason Hanna Quintet on Wednesday, October 9 from 7:00–9:30 p.m. at Wang’s in the Desert. One song to the next, this retro suit & tie quintet jumps, jives and wails on jazz of the 40s, 50s and 60s. The Jason Hanna Quintet brings a youthful energy to the Great American and Latin Songbooks. Steeped in the tradition of classic jazz, Hanna creates a vintage nostalgia reminiscent of sounds from Frank Sinatra to Herb Alpert. Get tickets


“Squeeze My Cans” – Surviving Scientology at Dezart Performs

Dezart Performs is holding a special one-time only fundraising event, presenting Cathy Schenkelberg‘s explosive one-woman show “Squeeze My Cans,” on Monday and Tuesday, October 7 & 8 at 7:30 p.m. on the Desert Rose Playhouse stage in Rancho Mirage. The Church of Scientology had Schenkelberg for 14 years of her young, adult life. It took another 5 years for her to escape and she now shares a glimpse behind the velvet curtain of this strangely hilarious and unbelievably horrifying story. Get tickets

The Desert Stonewall Democrats present their 2nd Annual Stonewall in the Desert Awards on Friday, October 11 from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the home of David Freedman. They will be honoring two incredible individuals: Hon. Ginny Foat and the late Hon. Greg Pettis, as well as celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and the 20th anniversary of the Stonewall Democrats themselves. Get tickets

The Business Expo & Taste of Palm Springs will take place on Tuesday, October 15 from 5:00–9:00 p.m. at the beautiful Colony 29 and will include a taste of over 30 valley restaurants, wine and beer tasting, a cocktail bar, and live entertainment. Acqua California Bistro and David Green’s Musical Theatre University continue their outstanding and very entertaining series of dinner theatre with “Nunsense,” (the second longest-running musical in Off-Broadway history). This production stars Tony-nominated actress Jonelle Allen and a talented cast of alumni from MTU for a five-week run of Monday evening performances starting Monday, October 14. Fran Drescher Kicks Off Outlandish Performance Series

America’s favorite Nanny, Fran Drescher, is performing a show for the first time in Palm Springs on Saturday, October 12 at 8:00 p.m. at the Palm Springs Cultural Center as part of the Outlandish Palm Springs performance series. In “Schmoozing With Fran Drescher”, the legendary actress/comedian/activist shares, in her unique voice, both hilarious and poignant stories of her life. The Desert Cancer Foundation’s 13th Annual Paint El Paseo Pink walk for breast cancer awareness takes place on Saturday, October 12 at The Gardens on El Paseo in Palm Desert. The event will take over the entire street of El Paseo, from Portola to Hwy 74. Surrounded by the gorgeous, lush landscape and boutique shops, walkers will enjoy live music, djs, browse merchant shops, all while helping to support life-saving breast cancer screening, diagnostic and treatment services for our local valley residents.
