Show Your Pride, Light Up the Night, and Win!

It’s almost time for Palm Springs Pride, and residents and businesses are invited to show their support for the LGBTQ community and decorate their storefront, home or apartment with pink and rainbow lights for the 2nd annual Light Up the Night contest presented by Alaska Airlines. KGAY 106.5 Palm Springs, Gay Desert Guide and VACAYA LGBT+ Vacations are sponsoring the contest using the hashtags #ILoveGayPalmSprings AND #LightUptheNight on social media, through October 31 at midnight. There are separate contests for the best business decoration and best residential decoration with prizes including airfare to anywhere Alaska Airlines flies, and a VACAYA LGBT+ Vacation for two to the Caribbean! The voting deadline is Monday, October 25 in the Coachella Valley Independent’s 8th Annual Best of Coachella Valley, and we are thrilled to have four nominations associated with KGAY 106.5! Both DJ Galaxy (Vincent Corrales) and DJ Eric Ornelas, of the KGAY Retro Lunch at Noon, have been nominated for Best Local DJ, and KGAY Morning Host John Taylor is up for Best Local Radio Personality! Palm Springs Leather Pride 2021 Starts Thursday

Palm Springs Leather Pride XXVI: Unlocked Full Release will take place from Thursday, October 28–Sunday, October 31 with events at various locations, starting with the “Parolee” Registration at Hunters Night Club on Thursday from 4:00–8:00 p.m., followed by the “Strip Search” meet-and-greet party at Tool Shed from 7:00 p.m.–1:00 a.m. The fun gets underway Friday through Sunday with three pool parties, a “Mess Hall” formal leather dinner, Cigar Social, Mr. Palm Springs Leather 2021 Competition, Vendor Mart and Cruise Party, and much more. Girlfriend: Dezart Performs Under the Stars!

The award-winning Dezart Performs of Palm Springs opens its 14th Season with the critically-acclaimed Todd Almond / Matthew Sweet musical GIRLFRIEND (October 27 – 30) taking place outside at the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater. Responding to Housing Instability in LGBTQ+ Communities

Brothers of the Desert presents Gabriel Maldonado, CEO of Tru Evolution on responding to homelessness in LGBTQ+ communities on Tuesday, October 26 from 5:00–6:00 p.m. on Zoom. Maldonado will present on the current impacts to vulnerable LGBTQ populations in the region as a result of COVID-19 and TruEvolution’s response to the need for housing and community development with the launch of their new housing development, Project Legacy. Palm Desert Concerts in the Park: New Sensations

Palm Desert’s free Concerts in the Park series is held every Thursday in October from 6:00–7:30 p.m. at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park amphitheater. The concerts offer a delightful evening of music by some of the top acts from across the region. On Thursday, October 28, New Sensations performs, wrapping up the month. New Sensations is a fun and high energy, party dance band that plays the best Rock, Pop, Funk, Disco, Soul, Motown, Swing, and more, spanning 6+ decades of the most popular dance music ever recorded by your favorite artists. Jazzville Palm Springs: Lalo Guerrero Tribute

Jazzville, the live jazz scene presented by Barry Martin/DJ Baz and Take Five Entertainment, presents a Tribute to Lalo Guerrero on Thursday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the vibrant Cascade Lounge inside Agua Caliente Casino in Palm Springs. Lalo was a Mexican-American guitarist, singer and farm labor activist best known for his strong influence on today’s Latin musical artists. This incredible evening will feature an 8-piece band playing music from Lalo’s early Cha Cha and Mambo days to some of his biggest Latin hits in both Spanish and English. Halloween on Arenas Road

The big event on Halloween Night, Sunday, October 31 is Palm Springs Halloween on Arenas Road, from 4:00–10:00 p.m. Come dressed as your favorite super heroes, ghouls, goblins, carnival revelers, movie look-a-likes and drag queens and compete to win over $1,800 in prizes. The evening’s live entertainment features headliner Debby Holiday, singer of 16 Billboard Top 20 Dance Hits including her latest single “Waiting for a Lifetime,” plus performances by: Brian Justin Crum, DJ Zareen, Pulp Vixen, Probe 7, Marina Mac, Chi Energy, with MC Bella da Ball. Saturday Halloween Soirée at Boozehounds

Boozehounds Palm Springs will be throwing a private Halloween Soirée full of magic on Saturday, October 30. The ticketed event will be hosted under the stars on their Halloween-themed outdoor patio, with music by a guest DJ and activations by local artisans (Tarot card reader, photography, jewelry, floral and more). Boo Ball 2021

Boo2Bullying is bringing the Met Gala to the desert with its 3rd Annual Boo Ball on Saturday, October 30 from 5:30–10:00 p.m. at the Palm Springs Air Museum. Walk the Orange Carpet, enjoy the evening with exclusive music performances by Jamie Miller, Musical University Theater, Chris Bennett, and Kid Baron, with Emcee Bella da Ball and a contest with Best Costume prizes. Halloween Hullabaloo at the Palm Springs Cultural Center

Hocus Pocus (1993)

The Palm Springs Cultural Center is offering a full day of Halloween fun with attractions for all ages, including Best of Retro Cartoon Halloween Specials (your favorites from the 80’s and 90’s) at 1:00 p.m., and a screening of the original Ghostbusters film at 1:30 p.m. with the Southland Ghostbusters live in person with complimentary goodie bags. Hocus Pocus screens at 5:00 p.m. hosted by the Sanderson Sisters live in person, with real magic wands for the kids. From 3:00–7:00 p.m. it’s the free Trunk or Treat event where costumed kiddoes will go from trunk to trunk collecting treats from owners who have decorated their vehicles.

For the grown-ups, the Jazzville Creepy Cocktail Party starts at 3:00 p.m., ahead of the Jazzville Halloween Show featuring The Jazz Cartel at 5:00 p.m. A Zombie Cocktail Party starts at 6:00 p.m., ahead of the Dirty Little Secrets Burlesque show “Shock Theatre Spooktacular” at 8:00 p.m. This wild and crazy Halloween variety show is not for the faint of heart. Also, Three Michaels Live features an ode to John Carpenter’s Halloween with the musical score, scares, and skits performed LIVE by three Michael Myers, at 8:00 p.m. with another appearance at 9:30 p.m. Tickets to Three Michaels include admission to the “Haddonfield Ball” from 9:00–11:00 p.m. with free Buzzbox cocktails in the upstairs lounge.
