Business Expo and Taste of Palm Springs

The Business Expo & Taste of Palm Springs will take place on Tuesday, October 15 from 5:00–9:00 p.m. at the beautiful Colony 29 and will include a taste of over 30 valley restaurants, wine and beer tasting, a cocktail bar, and live entertainment. Over 100 local businesses will showcase their products and services. Gay Desert Guide along with KGAY 106.5 will be there with a booth–stop by and say hi! More info


Rancho Mirage Chamber Mixer at Enzo’s

Mix and mingle with the Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, October 15 from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Enzo’s Bistro and Bar on Highway 111. Bring plenty of business cards. Cost is $5 for members and $20 for future members and guests. More info

 


Sexual Health in a Fetish World

The LGBT Community Center of The Desert and Eisenhower Health presents Sexual Health in a Fetish World. Please join Jonathan Bechard, MD, Internal Medicine, for a sex-positive discussion around common medical risks associated with fetish play, how to avoid them, how to talk about them with your doctor, and how to bring a health-positive voice to your desires and experimentation. Gong Show Karaoke at Runway

Runway at CCBC presents Karaoke like you’ve never seen before with Gong Show Karaoke on Wednesdays from 7:00–10:00 p.m. This 7-week series features Siobhan Velarde and Gilmore Rizzo and starts on Wednesday, October 16, culminating  with the finals on Wednesday, November 27. More info

Palm Desert FREE Concert in the Park: 90s Rock Show

Residents and visitors alike flock to the Palm Desert Civic Center Park every Thursday evening in October for the City’s free Concerts in the Park. Held on the terraced lawn of the Civic Center Park Amphitheater, music lovers can look forward to diverse musical offerings that may range from reggae to R&B, and from country to indie. The lineup includes:

  • Oct 17 – 90s Rock Show (90s music tribute/cover band)
  • Oct 24 – The Pack (Rat Pack tribute band)
  • Oct 31 – Dead Man’s Party (Oingo Boingo tribute band)

Food trucks will be onsite. More info


Strong Women in Film

The Rancho Mirage Writers Festival Film Club presents a free series, “Strong Women in Film,” held on the third Thursday each month from October through December 2019, and February through April 2020. Films start at 2:00 p.m with free popcorn and water. This month’s film, on Thursday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m.: 9 to 5, starring Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton, and Lily Tomlin. More info

Desert AIDS Walk

2,000 walkers and 100 volunteers will come together from across the Coachella Valley in a powerful demonstration of kindness and compassion at Desert AIDS Walk 2019 on Saturday, October 19. Funds raised make it possible for 10,000 of our neighbors and friends to have continued access to Desert AIDS Project’s holistic, integrated health and wellness programs; their doors are open to everyone, regardless of gender or HIV status. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., Walkers step off at 9:00 a.m. Wellness fair from 10:30–1:00 p.m. More info

Palm Springs Equality Awards

Equality California’s Palm Springs Equality Awards are Saturday, October 19 from 5:30–10:00 p.m. at The Riviera and Gay Desert Guide is a proud media sponsor of this important annual recognition and fundraiser. Celebrate EQCA’s 20th Anniversary at one of the desert’s most stylish venues and honor the inspirational leaders and organizations whose selfless work helps create a world that is healthy, just and fully equal for all LGBTQ people. This year Harold Matzner is being honored with the Humanitarian Award and Alexis Ortega is being honored with the Community Leadership Award. Jennifer Holliday will give a special performance. Margaret Cho at Outlandish Performance Series

Margaret Cho makes her Outlandish debut on Saturday, October 19 at 8:00 p.m. at the Palm Springs Cultural Center as part of the Outlandish Palm Springs performance series. Synonymous with stand-up comedy that is both gut-wrenchingly hilarious, Margaret’s ground-breaking and controversial work has played to sold-out houses across the nation. From Thursday, October 17 through Sunday, October 20, you can enjoy a variety of more than 50 new and favorite events at Modernism Week Preview, drawn from the annual Modernism Week festival held in February. Palm Springs City of Diversity Home Tour

The Organized Neighborhoods of Palm Springs (ONE-PS), present the self-guided City of Diversity Home Tour on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. You’ll visit 6 vibrant homes in 6 very different neighborhoods. The homes were selected to present a variety of interior styles and accents from whimsical to classic midcentury. Casual Concours Car Show

The finest midcentury car show in the Coachella Valley, Casual Concours, takes place Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. at the Desert Princess Country Club. The show reflects the unique collector car culture of Palm Springs, with dominant displays of rarely seen luxury cars of the 1950s–80s and a focus on styling, color, luxury features, historical significance and showroom condition—in other words, midcentury glamour! Dirty Little Secrets Burlesque – “Scared Shirtless”

Weekend Theatre

Desert Theatreworks presents Mamma Mia! The smash hit musical based on the music of ABBA from Friday, October 18 through Sunday November 3 at the Indio Performing Arts Center. The show features all the beloved hit songs by ABBA, including “Dancing Queen,” “S.O.S.,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Take a Chance on Me” and of course, the title tune, all set to a feel-good story of young bride-to-be Sophie. The Desert Rose Playhouse presents Die, Mommie, Die!,  through Sunday, October 27.  In an attempt to escape her marriage so that she can be with a hunky layabout, ex-cabaret siren Angela Arden poisons her husband. But when she begins to suspect that her daughter and gay son are also sleeping with her paramour — and they in turn begin to suspect her — everything begins to fall apart.
