The LGBTQ Center of the Coachella Valley presents the Paws n Claus Annual Holiday Pet Food Drive on Monday, November 28 at 5:30 pm at Eight4Nine Restaurant and Lounge. Making sure hungry families are taken care of doesn’t mean we should neglect our hungry pets. The annual Paws n Claus pet food drive helps stock the pet food pantry in the Community Food Bank at The Center. The best part? Tim Burton Film Retrospective: Batman Returns

Experience Tim Burton’s early classics on the largest screen in the Coachella Valley at the Historic Camelot Theatre with their PS Rewinds series. On Wednesday, November 30 at 8 pm, it’s Batman Returns (1992). The monstrous Penguin (Danny DeVito), who lives in the sewers beneath Gotham, joins up with wicked shock-headed businessman Max Shreck (Christopher Walken) to topple the Batman (Michael Keaton) once and for all. But when Shreck’s timid assistant, Selina Kyle (Michelle Pfeiffer), finds out, and Shreck tries to kill her, she is transformed into the sexy Catwoman. McCallum Theatre Gala

The 2022 McCallum Theatre Gala will take place on Thursday, December 1 at 8 pm, featuring Matteo Bocelli, one of the most promising emerging vocalists on the international pop scene. Performing with an 80-piece orchestra and special guest, this year’s Gala guarantees to be a memorable evening as the McCallum welcomes back this main event after a two-year hiatus. Proceeds from the McCallum Theatre Annual Gala help fund Theatre operations as well as arts education programs that annually bring training in theater, dance, music and visual arts to over 50,000 schoolchildren and educators at no cost to them. 50 Years of Fabulous Film Screening

The Palm Springs Library presents 50 Years of Fabulous – A Film Screening on Thursday, December 1, at the Welwood Murray Library at 6 pm. This film recounts the rich history of the Imperial Council, the oldest LGBT charity organization in the world. Founded in San Francisco by renown activist, drag queen and performer Jose Sarria, the Council has helped shape LGBT life and social history in San Francisco and beyond throughout the last five decades. PALS Death Cafe

They say “talking about death makes us feel good about living,” and this Thursday, December 1 from 2–3 pm, PALS (Planning Ahead for LGBTQ Seniors) presents their Death Cafe meeting on Zoom. This is a group-directed discussion of death with no agenda, specified topics, or designated outcomes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session. Just bring your curiosity and your thoughts/ideas about death or dying. More info

Holiday Food & Toy Drives

The Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus Holiday Gift & Toy Drive, “Chorus Cares,” is Saturday, December 3 from 8 am–1 pm at their booth at the Certified Farmers’ Market at the Palm Springs Cultural Center. Please bring new unwrapped gifts or toys in original packaging or gift cards up to $25 in value, to benefit Martha’s Village & Kitchen.

At The Roost Lounge, they are accepting canned food and non-perishable food items now through December 20, with drop-off locations at The Roost, Roadrunner Print & Ship, and various pop-up events from Brothers of the Desert. They are also accepting new unwrapped toys for local children, benefiting Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City, now through December 20 at the same locations. They are also running a separate Board Game Drive through December 12, for new unwrapped board games (not card games) which will go toward their goal of gifting a game to every student at Rio Vista and Julius Corsini Elementary Schools [More info].

Dick’s Bar is having a “Stuff the Cruiser” Toy Drive with Anita Treadmill and the Palm Springs Police Department on Friday, December 9. Then, Hunters and Streetbar are teaming up for a Toy Drive all day on Sunday, December 11 in the parking lot between the two establishments. Fill the truck with unwrapped toys which will be given to Palm Springs Fire Station #2 for distribution. On Saturday, December 17, AMP Sports Lounge in Cathedral City has a Toy Drive starting at 3pm with a drag show at 5 pm.

The City of Palm Springs Parks & Rec Department is collecting unwrapped toys at four different locations through Thursday, December 15:

  • Palm Springs BMW, 3737 E. Palm Canyon Drive
  • Porsche Palm Springs, 3735 E. Palm Canyon Drive
  • Palm Springs Public Library, 300 S. Sunrise / Open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (closed Sunday)
  • Leisure Center, 401 S. Pavilion Way / Open 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. (Monday through Friday)

The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert’s Community Food Bank shelves are emptier than ever, and they’ve launched a new “Feed a Family” campaign going into this holiday season. Your $55 donation can help the food bank provide a family of 4 with all the fixings for a delicious and healthy holiday meal [Donate here].

Mizell Center can use your help, too, in filling their holiday gift bags for their 400 homebound Meals on Wheels clients. They are looking for shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, bars of soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, toilet paper, and athletic socks to be donated no later than December 7. Wildlights at The Living Desert

Wildlights returns to The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens on December 2–3, 9–10, 16–24, and 26–30. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Wildlights is a magical winter wonderland, complete with twinkling lights, dazzling light displays, and holiday fun, recognized in the Top 5 Best Zoo Lights by USA Today. Follow illuminated pathways on a journey around the Zoo with endless awe-inspiring sights and festive photo opportunities. Guests can go for a spin on the carousel, enjoy themed treats, take a free souvenir photo with Santa, and much more. 13th Annual Men of the Desert Fashion Show

Dudes, dogs and designer fashions will be on display at the 13th Annual Men of the Desert Fashion Show on Sunday, December 4 from 11 am–2 pm at the Palm Springs Air Museum. Join in for an afternoon of fun on the runway featuring our Desert Handsome Hounds, including Gay Desert Guide’s own Brad Fuhr on the runway! Enjoy a delicious and beautifully prepared lunch while being entertained as these stylish models work the runway, each with a tail-wagging canine by their side! Includes champagne reception and silent auction. This exciting event benefits Animal Samaritans’ life-saving rescue program and the care for homeless animals at Animal Samaritans’ no-kill shelter. 30th Annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade

The City of Palm Springs presents the 30th Annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade on Saturday, December 3 from 5:45–7:45 pm. The parade, the city’s signature holiday event and a much loved tradition, features spectacular twinkling floats, magnificent marching bands, huge Macy’s-style holiday balloons – and Santa Claus of course! The parade route follows Palm Canyon Drive north, from Ramon Road to Tachevah Road. The parade will once again be broadcast live on NBC Palm Springs starting at 6 pm. More info

On Friday, December 2 at 5:15 pm, it’s time for the Official City of Palm Springs Holiday Tree Lighting in Frances Stevens Park, featuring Santa Claus and Palm Springs City Council. Prior to the lighting of the City’s spectacular 22-foot tall Holiday Tree, Main Street Palm Springs and Mayor Lisa Middleton will host the annual Holiday Banner Student Awards beginning at 4 pm. The Leslies’ 34th Annual Toy Drive and Fundraiser

The Leslies’ 34th Annual Holiday Toy Drive takes place Saturday, December 3 from 6:30–11 pm at a private residence in Palm Springs. The 60’s-themed holiday event will feature a catered gourmet dinner, a hosted bar, carols performed by the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles, Santa and Mrs. Claus, and a silent and live auction. Proceeds benefit the Laurel Foundation, serving over 700 transgender/gender diverse youth and youth affected by HIV/AIDS, providing free mental health and social support programs throughout 2023. Desert Ensemble Theatre presents Do Not Remove Label, a world premiere by Jerome Elliott Moskowitz, from December 2–4 and 9–11.
