Mid-Summer Dance Party Coming This Weekend!

Before we get to the weekday events, we have to make sure you know the hottest–and coolest–pool party of the summer is taking place this Saturday, August 3! I Love the 80’s Mid-Summer Dance Party, brought to you by Gay Desert Guide and KGAY 106.5 will start with DJ Eric Ornelas spinning in the front of Chill Bar from 5:00–9:00 p.m., and continue with DJ Mat Consola from 9:00 p.m.–closing in the back bar. An Evening of Classical Music with Pianist Soyeon An

CVRep presents Soyeon An, 27-year-old classical pianist from South Korea, performing on Wednesday, July 31 at 7:00 p.m. at the CVRep Playhouse in Cathedral City. Having started playing at age 7, she came to United States at 22, and actively performs around the states, winning competitions and giving recitals. Pieces to be performed include: Liszt–Mephisto Waltz, Mozart–Sonata in B Flat Major K.281, Chopin–Mazurka, and more. Get tickets


Hollywood Signature Series: Marilyn Monroe

The Palm Springs Cultural Center’s Hollywood Signature Classics Film Series featuring the works of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe continues this week. Screenings are Wednesdays @ 7:00 p.m. at the Camelot Theatres in the Palm Springs Cultural Center. Titles include this week’s How to Marry a Millionaire (July 24), Some Like it Hot (July 31), Seven Year Itch (Aug 7), Bus Stop (Aug 14), Let’s Make Love (Aug 21) and more! Book Launch: St. Sukie’s Strange Garden of Woodland Creatures

Meet the local author and illustrator St Sukie de la Croix & Roy Alton Wald for the launch of their new book, “St Sukie’s Strange Garden of Woodland Creatures” on Tuesday, July 30 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Koffi Central. The event will feature story time with St. Sukie, original pen & ink illustrations on display and for sale, signed copies of the book, discussion, prizes, and giveaways. This inspired collection of strange stories take place in a magical garden where St Sukie de la Croix is the janitor of lunacy. “St Sukie’s Strange Garden of Woodland Creatures” is aimed at adults who never really grew up. The Palm Springs Cultural Center continues to present their series of FREE big-screen community screenings of Stranger Things Season 3 on Thursdays from 6:00–8:30 p.m. (2 episodes with intermission) inside the Camelot Theatre. This Netflix original series is a nostalgic nod to ’80s sci-fi and horror classics, earning 31 Emmy nominations, including two for Outstanding Drama. Save the Date: Cinema Diverse

The Palm Springs LGBT Film Festival, Cinema Diverse, will be coming to the Palm Springs Cultural Center from Thursday, September 20 through Sunday, September 22. This eleventh edition of the festival opens with the new documentary “The Long Road to Freedom: The Advocate Celebrates 50 Years,” Narrated by Laverne Cox with music by Melissa Etheridge, this moving documentary tells the story of our lives through the pages, covers and first fifty years of our most prized LGBTQ magazine: THE ADVOCATE. Movie Screening – “The Other Side: A Queer History’s Last Call”

Studio One 11 presents a special screening of “The Other Side: A Queer History’s Last Call” followed by Q&A with Director/Producer Jane Cantillon on Sunday, August 4 from 5:30–7:00 p.m. “The Other Side” features Studio One 11’s own Tommy Dodson, Bryan Miller and Vince Cartelli. This heart-wrenching and critically acclaimed documentary about the history of gay Los Angeles is set against the backdrop of The Other Side, a venerable gay piano bar in the Silver Lake neighborhood. For more than 40 years, it served as a gathering place for the older gay men in the neighborhood. Through the personal stories of these candid senior gay men, we get a unique perspective of a time when a casual touch with the wrong person could land you in jail. More info


Christopher Carothers Performs at CVRep Cabaret

CVRep presents Christopher Carothers in concert, performing “Life, Love and Hollywood” on Saturday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m. Carothers has toured the United States and Canada in the Broadway Tours of Les Misérables, Grease! Phantom, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Jesus Christ Superstar. He’s also starred in such favorites as Evita, White Christmas, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, Cabaret, and many others. Styx at The Show
