Rainbow Night at Playoffs

On Wednesday, July 3 it’s time to celebrate hump day and welcome the heat of July with a cold one at Playoffs Sports Bar’s monthly Rainbow Night from 7:00–10:00 p.m. Come for munchies, cocktails, and a show hosted by the fabulous Anita Rose. The Palm Springs Cultural Center and the Palm Springs Library present the Outbook Club and Mixer on Wednesday, July 3, featuring The Air You Breathe, by Frances De Pontes Peebles. Come at 6:00 p.m. for an open bar and social, with book discussion to follow, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Local book critic and columnist J. Corbett Holmes leads discussions around each month’s selection. Jon Mayer Trio at Jazzville Palm Springs

Jazzville presents the Jon Mayer Trio at Hotel Zoso on Wednesday, July 3 from 7:00–9:30 p.m. Mayer evokes the melodic prowess and lyrical capability in be-bop that seems to be a rarity today, and Roy McCurdy’s drums always recall the literal sound of the classic Cannonball records, many of which he played on. All American 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and Power Baseball

Come celebrate Independence Day in Palm Springs at the City’s much loved “All American Fourth of JulyFireworks Spectacular, Pool Party and Power Baseball festivities on Thursday, July 4. Residents can head over to Sunrise Park for a picnic and then to adjacent Palm Springs Stadium to watch the Palm Springs Power baseball team take on the Palm Springs Collegiate All Stars at 6:05 pm. Gates open at 5 pm. FREE admission for the fireworks begins at 8 pm followed by the fireworks show at 9:15 pm sharp! Everyone is invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs and sit on the field. To keep cool on July 4th, you can also head over to the pool at the Palm Springs Swim Center, for a special 2 pm pool party. More info


 

4th of July BBQ and Stranger Things 3 Premiere

Come to the Palm Springs Cultural Center on July 4 from 5:00–8:30 p.m. for a Fourth of July BBQ and Fireworks viewing! Seats are available for purchase, along with parking permits for this popular event with a great view of the PS Community Fireworks show. Tickets include bbq meal which includes a hamburger or a hot dog and your choice of a side (coleslaw or potato salad) More info

The evening will also feature a FREE big-screen community screening of the premiere of Stranger Things Season 3 from 7:00–8:00 p.m. inside the Camelot Theatre. (Tickets for the BBQ are not required for entry). This Netflix original series is a nostalgic nod to ’80s sci-fi and horror classics has earned 31 Emmy nominations, including two for Outstanding Drama. The Palm Springs Cultural Center will continue the FREE Community Screenings of Stranger Things Season 3 on Thursday nights starting July 11 through August 15 from 6:00–8:30 p.m. (2 episodes with intermission). “Spring Awakening” Opens

Palm Canyon Theatre presents Spring Awakening from July 5–14. The musical features music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the German play Spring Awakening (1891) by Frank Wedekind. Set in late-19th-century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of teenage sexuality. Get tickets

 

“Ruthless! The Musical” Continues

Desert Rose Playhouse presents Ruthless! The Musical, through July 14. The show, directed by Loren Freeman and starring Desert Rose Playhouse Artistic Producing Director Robbie Wayne, famously spoofs Broadway musicals from Gypsy to Mame as well as many iconic films including The Bad Seed and All About Eve. Premiering in 1992, the show is responsible for discovering young performers Britney Spears and Natalie Portman.
