Let us be your Gay Desert Guide to the Fourth of July and beyond! Happy Independence Day week! The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday this year, so you can stretch out the celebration over two weekends! You may have begun early this past weekend, and speaking of early: Fantasy Springs Resort Casino celebrates July 4th with fireworks on July 3rd (more info).

The Palm Springs and Cathedral City Fire Departments would like to remind residents and visitors that all fireworks, including “Safe and Sane,” are illegal in the city of Palm Springs. "Safe and Sane" fireworks that are sold to the public in some cities refers to fireworks that do not fly or explode such as sparklers, fountains, snake items and spinners. These state-approved fireworks may be sold in Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, and Indio.

Women Behind Bars
The Desert Rose Playhouse, the Coachella Valley’s LGBTQ+ Stage Company, presents Women Behind Bars, a comedy by Tom Eyen, running through Sunday, July 29.In this hilarious satire on B-movies of the 1950's, Mary Eleanor, an innocent duped into crime, lands in the Greenwich Village Woman's House of Detention. Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre presents "this is a blank page. a story, in motion," a dance-theater work by Andrew Pearson, for three performances: Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21 at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, July 22 at 2:00 p.m. Pearson explores themes such as partnership, identity, sexuality, comfort zones, and more. His work has been presented by numerous festivals and he has served as an Artist in Residence for several schools, and created work for the LA Contemporary Dance Company, among others. Get tickets
Outfest Starts July 11; Cinema Diverse coming in September
We are just a week away from Outfest 2018, the Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival celebrating its 36th anniversary this year: July 12–22, 2018. As previously announced, the festival opens at the Orpheum Theatre with Kino Lorber’s “Studio 54,” Matt Tyrnauer’s vibrantly nostalgic documentary; and closes with FilmRise’s “The Miseducation of Cameron Post,” Desiree Akhavan’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner starring Chloë Grace Moretz. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – Special Screening for TryOut Thursday
Join Gay Desert Guide at D'Place's Mary Pickford 14 for a special screening of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again on Thursday, July 19 at 6:00 p.m. D' Place will have a special $9.00 ticket at the door for admission to the movie in a theater just for friends of Gay Desert Guide. The Summer of 2018 feels like the fast pace of our "season" in Greater Palm Springs. There are still so many activities and events as new businesses come online, new attractions dot the landscape and new visitors come into the valley for a getaway from their routine.
We couldn't be happier to see a busy summer season and hope you'll partake in our events coming up.
