The Brothers of the Desert Book Club – BODBC will offer our members and allies an opportunity to meet bi-monthly to discuss our own community's literary history, become better individuals and be the change we want to see in the world.
The BODBC will meet initially on Zoom twice a month: the second Wednesday night at 7:00 pm, and the fourth Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm. Our reading list for the year is only six books. We will spend two months on each selection, not because we are slow readers, but because we plan to be so much more than just a book club. We want to be a regular bi-monthly social and networking event as well. Yes, the book of the month will give us a topic and outline to follow, but we want to be a club that asks you, “How you doing?” We hope to create new friendships that will transcend our regular meeting times. Along with time allocated for book discussion, there will also be time for socialization and chit-chat. We need this so desperately in this pandemic and the isolating world we live in.
The featured reading in January will be "Blackbird" by Larry Duplechan. The titles we chose are all written by African American authors about African American stories and lives. A special inclusion was given to Miss Stacey Abrams because she is STACEY ABRAMS! So please grab your book or kindle, a snack, and drink, and meet us on zoom (and in-person in coming months.) All are welcome. Whether you can make only one meeting or all four per book. Whether you read the book or not. Or maybe you want to join us for only one book or all six. Or maybe you just want to check us out. You will find our group loves books and good discussion. But more importantly, just like our organization and at large membership, you’ll find we care about each other too. Contact the co-chairs for more information.
