Two long-time local collaborators in freshly-grown produce are teaming up in a new way next week. On April 9th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Certified Farmers’ Market Palm Springs will host the Riverside County Master Gardeners’ first Desert Seed Exchange. Taking place in front of the Palm Springs Cultural Center at 2300 E. Baristo Rd, and running concurrently with the Saturday CFMPS, this free event offers an opportunity for folks at all levels of gardening expertise to share their collected seeds – both naturally home-harvested and store bought – and swap ideas and techniques for successful desert cultivation. The MG’s suggest bringing all variety of seeds;
On 4/9 participants should look for the Master Gardeners under a turquoise double canopy, where they can drop off their seeds to share. The MG’s will repackage them for distribution and share tips, tricks and cautions about propagation in the Coachella Valley’s unique growing environment. The MG’s and CFM hope to offer these exchanges several times a year, and eventually expand into shared seedlings and cuttings as well.
