Films in the Gardens are presented in partnership with the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Tales of child and adolescent adventure will rule the night when Sunnylands Center & Gardens revives its Films in the Gardens movie series in May. The public is encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs for the free, outdoor screenings of the following film classics:
- May 6 — Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) — A poor but hopeful boy seeks one of the five coveted golden tickets that will send him on a tour of Willy Wonka’s (Gene Wilder) mysterious chocolate factory (IMDb). Rated: G
- May 13 — Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) — A scientist (Rick Moranis) accidentally shrinks his son and daughter, along with two other neighborhood teens, to the size of insects. Now the teens must fight diminutive dangers as their dad searches for them (IMDb). Rated: PG
- May 20 —Jumanji (1995) — When two kids find and play a magical board game, they release a man (Robin Williams), who had been trapped in it for decades. They must also confront a host of dangers that can only be stopped by finishing the game (IMDb). Rated: PG
All films begin at 8 p.m., with the Sunnylands gates open at 7 pm. Admission is free.
While reservations are not required, carpooling is strongly encouraged. No food or seating is provided. Filmgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and small picnics. Large coolers, alcohol, smoking/vaping, and pets are not permitted.
Films may be canceled at any time due to weather conditions, including rain, lightning, or strong winds.
