Desert Stonewall Democrats October Virtual Membership Meeting celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and Filipino American History Month
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and Filipino American History Month, we will present a program on how local labor history in the Coachella Valley and San Joaquin Valley brought forth the modern-day labor movement for farmworkers.
After a brief introduction, we will screen the documentary "DELANO MANONGS: FORGOTTEN HEROES OF THE UNITED FARM WORKERS MOVEMENT" (2014, 30 minutes) directed by Marissa Aroy.
This film presents the story of farm labor organizer Larry Itliong and a group of Filipino farm workers who instigated one of the United States farm labor movement’s finest hours – The Delano Grape Strike of 1965 that brought about the creation of the United Farm Workers Union (UFW).
Please Note: Our Zoom meetings are recorded to allow those who cannot attend to view them on our private YouTube channel. If you do NOT wish to be identified in the recording, please turn off your camera and use first name only when you log on.
A small donation for the meeting from those who choose to, will help to keep DSD financially stable and in a better position to support our candidates. Even better, if you are not already a member or need to renew, please join us with a membership contribution instead.
If you have any questions or comments about the meeting you can reach us at: info@desert-stonewall.org or (760) 260-8104 (Voicemail).
