Desert Stonewall Democrats June Membership Meeting

Desert Stonewall Democrats June Membership Meeting will be in person at The Mizell Center on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. They will have a Zoom component also for those who aren't yet comfortable with an indoor setting.

The topic will be The Politics of Water, with an expert panel discussing how racism, classism and politics affect who gets an adequate supply of clean water in the Coachella Valley and beyond.

Our speakers include Paul Ortega, Desert Water Agency and a representative from the Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability.

As UN Water states, “The physical world of water is closely bound up with the socio-political world, with water often a key factor in managing risks such as famine, migration, epidemics, inequalities, and political instability.” 

Activism is particularly important when a water issue is not merely an issue of infrastructure or poor sanitation practices, but has a political dimension. Now more than ever, water is an issue we should all care about, and water activism is the key to ensuring we all have the clean water we need.
