St Sukie’s Strange Garden of Woodland Creatures published by Cathedral City’s Rattling Good Yarns Press will be released July 2019. This inspired collection of strange stories take place in a magical garden where St Sukie de la Croix is the janitor of lunacy. St Sukie’s Strange Garden of Woodland Creatures is aimed at adults who never really grew up. The stories sit firmly in the tradition of British children’s books like Alice in Wonderland, Wind in the Willows, The Railway Children and Swallows and Amazons; all the books that St Sukie de la Croix read as a child in his native Britain. This book will answer all the questions that adults asked in their childhood, like, “Why do peacocks like marmalade on toast so much?” and “Why do cross-dressing giraffes like shoe-shopping?” and “Why are the woodland creatures throwing broken vacuum cleaners into the bottomless pit?” Join St Sukie de la Croix and Roy Alton Wald in their magical childlike world of tequila bunnies, lemonade birds, and wooden daffodils in St Sukie’s Strange Garden of Woodland Creatures.
St Sukie de la Croix is an acclaimed author and journalist. His history book, Chicago Whispers: A History of LGBT Chicago before Stonewall, published by the University of Wisconsin Press has become a mainstay in LGBTQ history. St Sukie was inducted into the Lesbian and Gay Hall of Fame in 2012.
Roy Alton Wald is a talented emerging local Cathedral City artist. Roy studied illustration and design at the Art Institute of Boston. His prolific output includes painting, lino block prints, and book illustrations
