Come out to the Cabot's Pueblo Museum in Desert Hot Springs for our 10th Annual Mata Ortiz Pottery Exhibition and Sale, as part of the museum's Cultural Weekend Series!! We will be hosting three Master Potters from Mata Ortiz, Mexico from Friday February 21st to Sunday February 23rd. The event is free and open to the general public. DeSilva Imports will have a wide selection of pottery on display, and available for purchase. Master Potter Javier Martinez, a previous winner of the Mexican National Ceramics Awards who works in Day of the Dead imagery, is a featured artist. Also present will be fan favorite Master Potter Lila Silveira, chosen as one of the top 20 potters in Mata Ortiz , and whose work was subsequently on display in Limoge and Paris, France. The third Master Potter is Trini Silveira, also an award winning potter who now lives locally in Murrieta, California, yet still adheres to the traditions taught to her by her parents. Mata Ortiz pottery is hand built without a potter's wheel, painted with long strands of human hair using natural paints, polished with an agate stone, and traditionally fired on the ground. There will be a traditional firing and presentation on the history of Mata Ortiz, weather permitting, at 11am and 2pm.
