Event Details
This is an evening for pet owners and their beloved.
Most of us have given some thought about who we would like have care for our beloved pets if they outlive us. Often, it’s an informal understanding with a friend or family member. Unfortunately, in far too many cases these informal arrangements fall through the cracks. The friend or family member may find that our pet does not mesh well with their family or their pets. Or the friend or family member doesn’t have the financial resources to care for an animal. For a variety of circumstances, beloved pets find themselves at an animal shelter. This does not have to be the case. Attend this program and you’ll learn what you can do to ensure your pet is loved and cared for properly if they outlive you.
This program is presented by Mizell Center, Palm Springs Animal Shelter and LGBTQ Center of the Desert. Potty trained, friendly, socialized pets welcome with their friendly and socialized owners!

Event Details
Mizell’s Center’s 3rd Wednesday Speaker Series is proud to celebrate Women’s History Month with a screening of the documentary Unidad: Gay & Lesbian Latinos Unidos (GLLU) by filmmaker Gregorio Davila. The film showcases the critical role women played in Gay & Lesbian Latinos Unidos (GLLU). GLLU was founded in 1981, only a dozen years after the Stonewall rebellion and only a couple of years before the HIV/AIDS pandemic began to ravage LGBTQ communities. GLLU was the greater Los Angeles area’s first major Queer Latino organization and the film chronicles events surrounding GLLU at a pivotal time in the history of LGBTQ equality, women’s rights, and civil rights movements that shaped the destinies of GLLU’s communities for decades to come.
Immediately following the screening, Mr. Davila will be joined in conversation with activist Rita Gonzalez and historian Lydia Otero. Ms. Gonzalez and Ms. Otero are founding members of GLUU and are featured in the documentary. The conversation will highlight the extraordinary contributions of ordinary people.
Lex Ortega, Director of Education & Advocacy at LGBTQ Center of the Desert will serve as moderator.
Community Partners: LGBTQ+ History & Archives of the Desert, L-Fund, Palm Springs Library, One Archive Foundation, LGBTQ Center of the Desert and Lez Out Loud, KGAY, GAY Desert Guide.
