Inaugural DiversityDHS set for Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5 PM

You're invited to join the excitement Saturday at the very first Desert Hot Springs Pride Festival. This event immediately follows two weekends after Palm Springs Pride and marks the last LGBT festival of the year statewide. Known worldwide as the 'Spa City', Desert Hot Springs boasts the finest natural spring water source and most spectacular mountain views in the world. Nearly 1/3 of residents identify themselves as LGBTQ.
The venue for the festival is set for Cabot's Pueblo Museum. The house and surrounding structures were self-built by Cabot Abram Yerxa (1883–1965), an early 20th-century homesteader in the Coachella Valley. It is named as "Cabot’s Old Indian Pueblo Museum" in its application for listing on the National Register Of Historic Places. The California State Parks Office of Historic Preservation lists it as "Yerxa's Discovery"
The centerpiece of the complex is a large, Hopi-style pueblo in the Pueblo Revival Style of architecture. The main building is a four-story, 5000 square foot (465 sq.m) structure with 35 rooms, 150 windows, 65 doors and 30 different roof levels. The pueblo and all the outbuildings on the site were built primarily from scrap wood and sheet metal all scavenged from the surrounding desert by Yerxa. It has a system of vents and shafts built into the walls to keep it cool in the summer

Wine & Design Benefiting Mizell's Meals on Wheels Program
Nov 18th at 3 PM… Wine & Design is excited to be featuring the Mizell Senior Center’s Meal on Wheels program.
In 2016 – 2017, Mizell Senior Center delivered 107,880 home delivered meals through it’s Meals on Wheels program to frail, homebound seniors from Palm Springs to Salton Sea. In this fiscal year, they also expanded service to Desert Hot Springs and the unincorporated areas of Thousand Palms, Whitewater, and Indio Hills. 40% of home delivered meals are in the Eastern Coachella Valley and the number of meals served has increased over 500% in the past three years. Many of these areas are rural and serve extremely low-income seniors — 90% of Meals on Wheels clients live at or below the Federal Poverty Level. Meals on Wheels maintains a fleet of eight vehicles to service home delivered meal routes and some routes are over 120 miles round trip each day.
Please join us to learn more about the Mizell’s Meal on Wheels program with a discussion and Q&A by Stacy Maddux, Special Events and Development Manager at the Mizell. More Info
