RABBIT HOLE, the Pulitzer Prize-winning searing family drama, has inspired Michael Shaw, Dezart Performs’ co-founder and Artistic Director, to trade the director’s chair for a leading role in the second production of Dezart Performs’ 10th season.

RABBIT HOLE will run January 12-21, 2018 at the Pearl McManus theater in the historic Palm Springs Woman’s Club for eight gripping performances. There will be an opening night party with the cast following the performance on Friday, January 12th.

After the triumphant opening of its 10th season, Dezart Performs swings the creative pendulum from the lighthearted THE LEGEND OF GEORGE McBRIDGE to the emotionally-compelling RABBIT HOLE

During its previous nine seasons, the nonprofit Palm Springs-based theater company has been nominated and received numerous Desert Theatre League awards as well as many glowing critical reviews and audience accolades for its excellent productions which continue to enrich the cultural life of the community.

While Shaw takes a leading role in this play, RABBIT HOLE will be directed by the accomplished director, Scott Smith, who has been active both as actor and director throughout the Coachella Valley. “I feel completely at ease handing the directorial reins over to Scott Smith,” commented Shaw.  “As an actor I have the confidence of being in Scott’s capable hands,” he added.
Smith has appeared in several Dezart Performs’ productions including THE OUTGOING TIDE (Desert Theater League Outstanding Supporting Actor award) and CASA VALENTINA. With RABBIT HOLE, Scott will be making his directorial debut at Dezart Performs. Previous directing credits include CAMELOT, MAN OF LA MANCHA, THE FULL MONTY, and NOISES OFF (co-directed with Michael Shaw).

RABBIT HOLE is a captivating drama that stirs the emotions when a life-shattering accident turns Becca and Howie Corbett’s world upside down and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. They both search for comfort and a path that will lead them back into the light of day. RABBIT HOLE features Deborah Harmon, Phylicia Mason, Artistic Director Michael Shaw, Yo Younger, and introduces Jonathan Hatsios.

This Pulitzer Prize-winning play opened on Broadway in 2006 and was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Play. RABBIT HOLE was also adapted for a 2010 film starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart.

Dezart Performs will be celebrate its 10th Anniversary on Sunday, January 14th with a glamorous party at Eight4Nine Restaurant and Lounge following the matinee performance on the same day.
