“Even after 25 years of visiting and writing about Palm Springs, I’m still amazed by how the desert city constantly reinvents itself. Each time we make the 100-mile drive from Los Angeles, there’s always a new hidden bar, revamped hotel or talked-about pop-up or exhibition worth checking out.

COVID is a challenge here as it is everywhere else but Palm Springs does have certain advantages, even over a global virus. With 350 days of sunshine a year and temperatures averaging in the 70s all winter, it’s a place built for outdoor dining and poolside imbibing, and most hotels don’t have even have indoor corridors. You can enjoy yourself safely here, with a distance of a chaise lounge between you and the nearest guest.

My wife and I have tested the terrycloth and cocktail banquettes at dozens of hotels and dining rooms here over the years since getting married at Korakia, which remains our sentimental favorite for a Palm Springs overnight. This year, though, I thought I’d share some of my favorite new spots, a few standout classics and one or two places you might want to book right this minute since they’re so hard to get into. Let’s call it The Palmies, my awards for the coolest, hottest and buzziest locations to eat, drink and refresh your pandemic-weary souls in the desert sunshine in 2022…”
